The wrinkles on the forehead that are visible in all cases while frowning and clearly evident in most others even without frowning have a serious business when it comes to indication of the heart health. The depth of the wrinkles may show the cardiovascular risk that a person may be undergoing, according to a recent study.

Our body features do more than just adding to the appearance. Most superficial body representations, some inherited and some acquired, signal the status of human’s internal physical well being. While most people have been treating wrinkles as a foe since it robs the youthfulness and conventional beauty of the face, it is high time that they start attributing serious importance to it health wise.

In a recent study, the researchers have found that wrinkles that appear on forehead are not just unavoidable consequences of ageing, but may also hint dire consequences due to rising cardiovascular problem inside. In case the wrinkles are deep, there may be high chances that a particular person may develop hardened arteries due to plaque build-up, otherwise known as Atherosclerosis Death – a major contributor to many cardiovascular disease (CVD) events including heart attacks.

Lead author of the study Yolande Esquirol, who works as an associate Professor at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Toulouse, also says that those who have numerous deep wrinkles are ten times more vulnerable to death by a CVD.  The research involved analysis of brow furrows among a group of 3200 adults to see if the visible marker of age has any significance in assessment of cardiovascular disease. For this purpose, healthy individuals from age group 32, 42, 52 and 62 and they were scored on the basis of number and depth of their wrinkles. A score of three implied numerous deep wrinkles, while zero meant that the skin was very smooth. The investigation was carried on for over two decades and it was found that people with zero score have lesser risk being killed due to CVD than people with higher markings.

The existing Blood Pressure and Lipid Profile test are certainly the best methods for evaluation of heart risks, yet brow furrows they are convenient in a way that they can raise alarm at a proper glance. Ms. Esquirol suggests that incorporating a straightforward lifestyle in form of more physical workout and consumption of healthier food, as well as, medical interventions can be suggested at an early stage with the help of diagnosis of the wrinkles. The presentation of the results was made at the European Study of Cardiology Congress 2018 in Munich.
