12th pass students can apply for BSc in Programming and Data Science online course at IIT Madras

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras on 30th June introduced this online BSc course for all those 12th pass students who want to study about programming and data science. 

The programme was launched by Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal?Nishank through a webinar.

In order to register, one will have to pay the application fee of Rs 3,000. thus, after this process, one will have to undergo a series of tests that will include qualifier process and exam. A maximum of 2,50,000 students are eligible for the qualifying procedure as after this limit is touched, no more applications will be accepted. Also, 15th September is the last date for enrollment in this course by IIT.

It must be kept in mind that if the target of 2.5 lakh is met before 15 September then too, the registration procedure will end.

All those who passed class 12th with English and Maths at Class 10th are eligible for this course. Even those student who are currently studying in 12th standard are fit to give the exam.

The statement by the institute further said “As part of the application process, all applicants will have to go through a Qualifier Process, wherein they will get access to 4 weeks of video content for the four foundational level courses. Along with the content, the first three weeks will also include a weekly assignment for each course that needs to be completed and submitted online within the given deadline. Only learners who get minimum required average assignment scores in all four courses will be eligible to appear for the in-person invigilated Qualifier Exam.”

The course is further divided into two parts-- regular and diploma

Regular Entry--

This level is beneficial for students who want to learn the basics of Math, Statistics, Computational Thinking, Python programming and English which will further help them take up the Diploma and Degree level.

Diploma Entry--

For those individuals who are familiar with the basics and have a strong foundation can try for the diploma level. However, one cannot study for the degree level course if he/she enrolls in a diploma entry level.
