HMD Global launching its own brand smartphones by mid-2024

HMD Global announced plans to launch its own brand of smartphones by the middle of 2024 with the possibility of launching first in India. HMD Global is a technology company currently manufacturing the Nokia smartphones. With this announcement HMD Global will enter into the smartphone market with its own brand.

According to the company statement, the company is going to launch its own brand of smartphones by the middle of this year. It is not clear of the specification and the pricing of their upcoming brand. This is a new brand strategy for the company.

"We have plans to do so much more as we introduce the world to the new HMD. We want to be a catalyst for positive and profitable change by embracing a multi-brand strategy: crafting new HMD original devices, creating Nokia phones, and collaborating with well-known global partners," Jean-Francois Baril, HMD Co-founder, Chairman and CEO said.

HMD Global will be launching smartphones in its own brand name. Company is focusing on sustainability and repairability in the smartphone industry. Customers around the world will be able to see new smartphones with exciting features by HMD Global by mid of this year.

India is considered as a priority market and it is expected that the company will first launch its model in the Indian market. According to Ravi Kunwar, Vice President - India & APAC at HMD, the company is confident in the Indian market and due to this the company planned to launch its smartphone soon.

Company has the licence for the Nokia brand until the end of 2026 and this is limited to the feature phones. Company is expected to launch new feature phones by May 2024. HMD Global is also bringing Barbie flip phones to the market in partnership with Mattel.
HMD Global also announced plans to bring HMD Fusion, which is a new smartphone-style device running on Android with an unlocked bootloader. This allows the users to program their own hardware accessories to meet their needs. This device is in smartphone form-factor with in-built battery and screen.

HMD Global already started preparing for the launch of new devices. The company has registered two new trademarks at the European Intellectual Property Office named HMD Fusion and HMD Pulse. With this registration company is trying to protect these brand names.

We are expecting more details in the company months about the new smartphones to be launched by HMD Global in India. Soon, the Company might release more details about its upcoming smartphones.
