The NEET UG counselling for MBBS and BDS which was expected to start today on 6 July is deferred until further notice. The counselling for MBBS and BDS 2024 seats has been postponed indefinitely. It is noted that the court is hearing the matter on July 8. Due to allegations of paper leak the counselling for NEET UG is still deferred in the country, the new dates of counselling is expected only after 8 July by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

The new date of MBBS/BDS 2024 is yet to be announced. Currently the CBI is investigating various cases registered in different parts of the country. Today the counselling for the NEET UG was cancelled indefinitely until further notice.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is responsible for the All India Quota(AOQ) for undergraduate medical seats in the country. Still there is no official update on the beginning of counselling process on the MCC's official website at Before the beginning of the counselling process MCC will publish an official notification on its official website at Students are advised to check the official website of mcc for the accurate and up-to-date information for the NEET UG 2024 AIQ counselling.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said "The whole NEET-UG issue is getting worse by the day. The non-biological PM and his biological Education Minister are adding further proof to their demonstrated incompetence and insensitivity," in an X post. Jairam Ramesh further added "The future of lakhs of our youth is simply unsafe in their hands."

On July 5, The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) told the Supreme Court that scrapping the NEET examination held this year  would be "counterproductive" and would "seriously jeopardise" lakhs of honest candidates.

The NTA is the main examining body which conducts exams for the medical seats in India, based on the ranking in this exam students get admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in the country.  This year in 2024, there is allegation of large-scale malpractices including question paper leak and impersonation in the exam conducted by NTA.

The Union Education Ministry and the NTA have already filed separate affidavits opposing the cancellation of the NEET-UG exam conducted by NTA on Sunday, 05 May 2024 (Sunday).

Currently CBI has taken over the case registered in various parts of the country. These cases are being investigated by the CBI, while many accused have been arrested in the case.
